Lounge was founded in 2007 in British Columbia, Canada, born out of a deep appreciation for community, comfort, and the mountain lifestyle. The original location was built around a ski-lodge aesthetic, inspired by the quiet strength of snow-covered hills, warm interiors, and the feeling of coming inside after a long day in the cold. From the beginning, Lounge was designed to be a place where people could slow down, gather, and feel at home.
The idea for Lounge came from its founder, William Bird, an Indigenous Métis Canadian with a lifelong passion for skiing and the outdoors. While spending time on the slopes of British Columbia, William noticed the lack of casual, welcoming spaces that blended café culture, comfort food, and a relaxed lounge atmosphere. He envisioned a space that reflected both modern warmth and mountain tradition, rooted in respect for place and people.
What started as a single location quickly grew into something larger. As word spread, Lounge expanded beyond its original home and found a natural place in communities like Nelson, where the outdoor culture, creativity, and sense of connection aligned perfectly with the brand’s identity. Each location carries the same core feeling while adapting to the character of its surroundings.
Today, Lounge can be found in multiple locations, each one maintaining the signature ski-lodge influence while evolving with the community it serves. Wood textures, warm lighting, and inviting spaces remain central to the experience, creating an atmosphere that feels familiar whether you are stopping in for a coffee, a meal, or a late-night hangout.
At its heart, Lounge is about more than food and drinks. It represents balance — between modern and rustic, social and relaxed, tradition and creativity. What began on the hills of British Columbia continues to grow, guided by the same vision that inspired it in 2007: a place where everyone is welcome.
